Break In The Weather

Sailors are always watching the weather. I wrote this for a friend of mine who got stuck in Key West waiting for decent weather on a run to the Bahamas.

When the shadow's grow longer
And the sun's heading south,
When the daylight gets shorter
I get a taste in my mouth.
It's the flavor of a mango
When it's right off the tree,
Or the smell of flamboyants
Floating in on the breeze.

Chorus:
Waiting for break in the weather
Waiting for a cool wind to blow
Waiting for a window to open
A safe passage home

There's a bay in Tortola
And it calls me by name
But if you can't hear it,
I'm not to blame.
Because I like the feel
Of the small latitudes
So I'm heading south
Seeking out solitude

Chorus:
Waiting for break in the weather
Waiting for a cool wind to blow
Waiting for a window to open
A safe passage home

Bridge:
Face-to-face with changes,
Still I keep it in my head:
"Comes a storm, and then the rainbow--
There'll be better days ahead."

A beacon is flashing
Out in the night
A constant reminder
In the starlight
The radio's playing
My favorite song
And I can hear
My own heart sing along.
