Some Towns

Wrote this one at the Kerrville Folk Festival while Michael was on the Saturday morning bike ride with Rod. It’s a short story about choosing to make changes.

Well the sky looked like old cotton candy,
Thrown away when the circus left town.
The clouds hung out on the horizon,
And he wondered if the rain would come down.
He thought of the world out before him,
And the place he was leaving behind.
'Cause some towns look good from a distance,
Some just look good if you're blind.

His life had begun with such promise,
A seedling set deep in rich ground.
But somehow, someway, it all started to fray,
And he watched as his world crumbled down.
Now he had thrown in the towel,
He would finally quit wasting his time.
'Cause some towns look good from a distance,
Some just look good if you're blind.

Now the road stretched forever before him
And he wondered just where it might lead.
But if you wait until you know then you might never go,
You might never find what you need.
Some changes must be made quickly
To keep you from changing your mind.
'Cause some towns look good from a distance,
Some just look good if you're blind.
