What is Success By 6?

Success By 6®-We bring people together for children.

Success By 6 is identified with a community's activities undertaken to ensure that children under the age of six enter school prepared to be successful throughout the years that follow. The initiative is spearheaded by the United Way as a neutral convenor in the community capable of bringing business and civic representatives to the table as powerful friends of children.

The vision for Success By 6 in Florida is a statewide community of United Ways engaged in collaborative relationships to support the development of strong community-based involvement in issues affecting all young children and their families.

United Way's Mobilization of America's Children

The Mobilization of America's Children has developed Mobilization Matters technical assistance briefs. The purpose of these briefs is to provide simple step-by-step assistance to United Way coalitions addressing children, youth and their families on various topics related to mobilizing multi-sector initiatives. These briefs are designed to be easy-to-use to help streamline the thinking process. Mobilization Matters will be produced each month and will cover such topics as United Way Capacity for Mobilization; Mobilization Leadership, Mobilization Public Relations, Mediation Skills and other areas of interest. Feel free to reproduce these briefs and distribute them to your partners in the community.

The briefs are available here in PDF file format, which will require software such as the free Adobe Reader to open.

"Community Mobilization Guiding Principles"

The inaugural issue, titled "Community Mobilization Guiding Principles" examines how convening multi-sector coalitions to form public/private partnerships are mobilizing resources and expertise to rebuild healthy American communities.

"Assessing Your United Way's Capacity for Community Mobilization"

This brief is designed to help United Ways make the decision to develop a United Way-led initiative. Developed with input from Directors of United Way Success By 6® and Bridges To Success® mobilization efforts nationwide that have a minimum of three years experience.

"Assessing Your Community's Capacity for Mobilization: Data Gathering"

Some United Way initiatives find initial data gathering very cumbersome. This third issue in the new series, "Assessing Your Community's Capacity for Mobilization: Data Gathering," has been designed to help United Ways collect data through simple interviews and by using existing data sources. A subsequent issue, "Identifying and Mapping Assets," will discus how United Ways can identify the assets within their community. An inventory of assets, when combined with data gathering, presents a more complete picture of your community.
